Fueled by last weekend’s upset of Virginia Tech, the Ducks defeated Idaho this Saturday with singles sweeps to secure the 6-1 victory.
The Ducks (2-1) secured the doubles point on courts No. 1 and No. 2 to start the match before wrapping up with singles wins on five of six courts.
Marlou Kluiving and Shweta Sangwan took down their doubles opponents 6-1 before Nia Rose and Alyssa Tobita finished things up on court No. 1 with a 6-0 win.
“We came out with some really great energy in the doubles,” head coach Alison Silverio said. “Then, our one and two stepped up and got it done.”
In singles, Tobita and Rose kept their intensity high, winning 6-2, 6-1 respectively and putting the Ducks ahead 3-0.
Freshman Daniela Nasser earned the match-winning point for Oregon on court No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Even though the Ducks had already won at that point, play continued on courts three, four and five.
Sangwan and Kluiving finished up their matches with victories, while Micheline Aubuchon was defeated in a tie breaker, giving the Vandals their sole point of the day.
Determined to keep the winning-streak alive, the Ducks will take on Baylor next Friday in Waco, TX.
“Overall it was a great match for us,” Silverio said. “It’s a start—certainly not a finish.”
