Age: 20
Major: Anthropology
Hometown: Boulder, Colorado
Year: Junior
Emerald: Summarize your platform.
Kincaid: Things I want to focus on: the Red Room and the Break, for sure. I think those are areas of the EMU that are not being utilized to their full potential and I think that’s something we can work on. I kind of want to hold the incidental fee more accountable and help publicize programs.
Emerald: Why do you want the position?
Kincaid: I see students on this campus using the EMU during a large percentage of their time on campus, between classes or to use programs and stuff and I just want to make it’s a welcoming place. It’s where a lot of the programs hold offices.
Emerald: What’s your background? What are your qualifications for this position?
Kincaid: I’ve been associated with programs like Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. I’ve sat on committees and I’ve actually headed up committees for that. I was a peer health educator and I’ve actually worked in the EMU in the health resource room and I know that aspect of it. Not to mention I’ve used countless programs like the Outdoor Program, just kind of know my way around as well as I helped direct a group called the Movement and kind of represent a large base of a variety of students, definitely.
Emerald: What’s the Movement?
Kincaid: The Movement is a Christian organization for greek students.
Emerald: In light of the ASUO retreat to Sunriver, Ore., what is the best way to ensure proper accountability from student leaders next year?
Kincaid: I think we need to hold ourselves accountable. I think we need to hold … the committee members need to make sure that everyone’s doing what they’re supposed to be doing and not taking advantage of the University or its money. I think students need to be hold us accountable as well. I think if students don’t know what’s going on — and it’s our duty to let them know what’s going on — if they don’t have an idea and they don’t tell us what they want, I think that’s important as well.
Emerald: But, to take it a step further, how do you ensure accountability?
Kincaid: I don’t know if you can.
Emerald: How feasible is the five-year EMU Master Plan? How would you facilitate it?
Kincaid: I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Emerald: The EMU expansion plan.
Kincaid: Oh, the expansion plan? I think it’s very feasible. I think it would be good. I think it would help bring in revenue for the University and the EMU. What was the second part of the question?
Emerald: How would you facilitate it?
Kincaid: I don’t know.
Emerald: How would you set the plan in motion? Do you have any specific recommendations?
Kincaid: I would probably work with the committee members now who are working on it and kind of follow their steps because they’re going in a pretty good direction with it. Sorry, I don’t really have a good answer for that.
