Former Oregon forward Cathrine Kraayeveld was chosen as the 27th overall selection in Saturday’s WNBA draft by the San Antonio Silver Stars.
The 6-foot-4 native of Kirkland, Wash., is the Ducks’ second highest player
drafted by the league, behind only Jenny Mowe, who was selected 21st overall
by the former WNBA team Portland Fire
in 2001.
“I’m just excited that I got drafted there,” Kraayeveld said. “I’ve been talking with them a little bit a couple days ago and enjoyed speaking with them. I’ve already heard great things about the city itself, so I think it will be a great experience for me, and I’m excited for it.”
Kraayeveld averaged 14.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game during her senior season, which earned her co-MVP honors
for the Ducks. She ranked sixth in the
Pacific-10 Conference in scoring and second in rebounding to give her first-team all-conference accolades.
“I’ve worked hard to get myself here, so it feels good to get rewarded in a sense for all the hard work,” Kraayeveld said.
Kraayeveld was one of just two players from the Pac-10 taken in the three-round WNBA draft. The other was Arizona guard DeeDee Wheeler, who was chosen 26th overall by the Los Angeles Sparks.
