Bruce Charles Miller, 62, a Eugene resident and frequent visitor to the University campus, died in his home Tuesday morning of unknown causes.
Miller’s longtime friend and self-described “confidant,” Brian Kenny of Springfield, said Miller called him at approximately 8:20 a.m. and said he was having trouble breathing.
Kenny said he called the paramedics and rushed to Miller’s residence, but by the
time he arrived approximately 15 minutes
later, Miller had died. Sacred Heart Medical Center confirmed Miller was dead upon
arrival at the hospital at 8:53 a.m. The death is being investigated by the county medical examiner’s office.
Miller regularly attended student government and City Council meetings and also was known for handing out personally addressed copies of his newsletters to the media.
“I know he was extremely attached to
students at the UO,” Kenny said. “His last wish — he had just had a section 8 housing voucher. He wanted to get an apartment by the University to be by students. His primary focus was
always on the students. The University of
Oregon was his great love.”
