Divisi, the University’s female a cappella group, took second place in the International Finals for the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella in New York City on Saturday night. Divisi also won an award for outstanding choreography. Six groups from different regions of the United States competed at the event,
according to the ICCA Web site.
“We’re very pleased with our performance,” Divisi member Katie Hopkins said. She added that two out of the three judges placed Divisi first, and that about 100 of the group’s friends and family members traveled to New York to watch the show. The group comprises 11 women.
Divisi’s next major event, besides regular Friday shows at 4 p.m. in the EMU amphitheater, will be a benefit concert with On The Rocks, the University’s male a cappella group, at
7 p.m. Saturday in Beall Hall. Proceeds from the event will go toward the
Fanconi Anemia Research Fund and cancer treatment for local woman Mieka Hopps.
