Located in the heart of downtown Eugene at 99 W. Broadway, Horsehead Bar is a great place to go to meet friends for drinks, a bite to eat or a game of pool. Irish flags hang from the ceiling and Guinness is on tap, but the Horsehead transcends all cultures to provide a casual, setting fit for a fabulously fun Friday night.
Horsehead is open daily from 4 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. Free pool is offered all day on Sundays and Mondays and also every day until 10 p.m. There are two happy hours, Super Happy Hour from 4 to 5 p.m. and regular Happy Hour from 5 to 9 p.m. Horsehead’s kitchen is open from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sundays and Mondays and from 6 p.m. until midnight Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Horsehead serves typical Mexican-American cuisine like nachos for $4.25, tacos for $2, and burritos, quesadillas and enchiladas for
$4.75 each. Horsehead also offers American classics like a hamburger and fries or chicken strips and fries for $5, French dip and fries for $5.50, and sandwiches with roast beef, turkey, ham or pastrami for $4.
Horsehead has plenty of drinks on the menu. The prices are reasonable; for example, for $5, you can order a Raspberry Stoli Cosmopolitan, or a Long Island Iced Tea. For less than $1 more, you can get a Makers Mark Manhattan, a Fresh & Clean (Vanilla Stoli, Raspberry Stoli, fresh squeezed lime and Sprite) or a Washington Apple Martini (Crown Royal, Apple Puckers and a shot of cranberry juice). These are just suggestions.
The bar itself is in the middle of the establishment, which, in my opinion, is exactly where it should be. The bar’s location provides easy access from wherever you choose to sit.
Local art for sale drapes the bright
red and orange walls. Live plants
decorate the front seating area, where large windows display bustling downtown Eugene.
When we first got there around 9:30 p.m. the place wasn’t too crowded or noisy. There were a few packs of pals sitting around drinking and some shooting pool in the back room. There were also some folks sitting in the casual, relaxing outdoor seating area. By 11 p.m., however, Horsehead seemed like it was the place to be, as it became standing room only and the music got louder and louder.
Horsehead was definitely a fun place to meet friends for drinks and would be a relaxing yet up-beat destination after a night of trying out Eugene’s downtown bars. The prices were reasonable and the stylish and friendly staff was constantly picking up empty glasses and making sure we were satisfied — I most definitely was.
No horsing around: This bar is the place to be for drinks, friends and pool
