For those students sticking around Lane County for Thanksgiving weekend, there are plenty of fun activities going on. Forget about spending the weekend studying because there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Watching live theater is always a great way to spend the evening, and in this town there is no shortage of amazing opportunities to see a play. Starting tonight, “Chaps – A Jingle Jangle Christmas” will be featured at the Hult Center, located on Seventh Avenue and Willamette Street in downtown Eugene. This musical was written by two Ashland playwrights, Jahnna Beecham and Malcolm Hillgartner, who have taken their already successful musical “Chaps!” and made it into a holiday spectacular. “Chaps – A Jingle Jangle Christmas” is presented by the Willamette Repertory Theatre. Tickets for this performance in the Soreng Theater can be purchased for $15 to $35, but tonight’s special preview price is $12-20. There will be no performance on Thursday. Visit www.hultcenter.org for ticket purchasing information.
Another opportunity to see some live theater is “Fully Committed” at the Lord Leebrick Theater at 540 Charnelton St. This play, which first began showing at the beginning of this month, runs Friday and Saturday for $16 and Sunday for $12. To purchase tickets, call 465-1506 or for information requests, e-mail box [email protected].
If seeing live music is how you’d rather spend your weekend, fear not. There are plenty of bars around town that will be open to satisfy your cravings. Tonight, see the Clumsy Lovers play some Celtic rock at 9 p.m. at Sam Bond’s Garage at 407 Blair Blvd. for $8. On Friday at Sam Bond’s catch Touch Force, Varnish and Dan Jones and the Squids at 9 p.m. for $5. On Saturday, see The Sugar Beets at 9 p.m. with a sliding scale cover charge of $7-$10. On Sunday, stop by at 9 p.m. to play some bingo with Tom and Scott K. for no charge.
The Greencards are playing tonight at John Henry’s at 7 p.m. Catch this show at 77 West Broadway for $7 and stick around for a reggae versus hip hop battle between DJ Kal El and DJ Tekneek at 10 p.m. with a cover charge of $3. But show up early to save some dough; guys get in free before 10 p.m. and gals get in free until 11 p.m. This Friday is John Henry’s Third Annual Moustache Rally. Come complete with mustache and pay $1 to see Burt Reynolds Overdrive, a Turbonegro cover band, plus The Visible Men, The Captain and Neal and Yeltsin at 10 p.m. Without a mustache, expect to pay $2.
Harry Manx will be performing tonight at Luna at 30 E. Broadway in downtown Eugene. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $15 at Adam’s Place, located next door to Luna.
