Unity Dinner and Dance
celebrates MLK Jr.
The Vietnamese Student Association and the Black Student Union are joining forces to sponsor the Unity Dinner and Dance 6 p.m. tonight. The evening wraps up a series of events sponsored by University groups this month in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The festivities begin with a multicultural dinner at 6 p.m. in the Collier House. VSA President Phuc Nguyen is slated as the main chef. The dance follows from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the EMU Fir Room. Admission is free.
Organizers are sponsoring the dinner and dance to celebrate King’s work and the impact he had on unifying races, BSU co-director Haben Woldu said.
“We took Martin Luther King Jr.’s concept of joining everyone as one nation,” she said. “We want to show how well the Vietnamese Student Association and Black Student Union can work together.”

Journalism students
to attend ad workshop
Two University students were selected by Milt Gossett, former director of Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising Worlwide, to participate in an annual advertising workshop in New York spring 2002.
Journalism majors Kelly Anne Schrader and Bruno Wiethorn Rinaldi were selected from more than a half-dozen applicants and will go to New York with advertising professor David Koranda April 3 through 5 to participate in the workshop and tour various New York advertising agencies. The purpose of the workshop is to introduce journalism students to the advertising profession and to encourage them to consider the advertising industry as a future career.
“This is a great opportunity for the students to learn about the advertising industry in New York,” Koranda said.
Gossett, whose firm has represented clients such as Toyota, Tide, Tylenol, Cheerios and Lexus, selected the University’s School of Journalism and Communication as one of three participants in his annual workshop and tour. Students submitted 500-word essays describing their achievements in advertising, their future plans and why they should be chosen to participate in the workshop.
