In the first game of the Pacific-10 Conference Tournament, No. 7USC upended No. 10 Washington State on the strength of EbonyHoffman’s 17 points and 20 rebounds.
The win sets up a Washington-USC contest Saturday at the HPPavilion in San Jose, Calif.
The loss was Washington State’s 26th this season, as the Cougarscame out on top just twice this season, once in a Pac-10contest.
The Cougars pulled within one, 43-42, late in the game, butHoffman’s prowess on the boards for the Trojans was too much.She had 14 rebounds in the first half, but was just as strong inthe second half as USC pulled away in the end.
The first unofficial upset of the tournament, No. 9 Californiatook down No. 8 Arizona State in the second game of the Pac-10Tournament on Friday night.
The win set up a Stanford-California game late Saturday.
Nihan Anaz scored 18 points to lead the Golden Bears. The winwas just second in California’s past seven tries against theSun Devils.
Carrie Buckner scored 14 points in the loss for the Sun Devils,while All Pac-10 Freshman member Jill Noe pitched in with 11.
The win was California head coach Caren Hortsmeyer’s 250thcareer victory.
