The designer will design computer graphics and paginate pages for
publication in the newspaper, and will be specifically expected to:
- Have an understanding of newspaper design and be able to design
pages. - Become extremely familiar with the operation of computer design
tools,
including QuarkXpress, Aldus Freehand and Adobe Photoshop. - Keep track of graphics in the works, making sure they are finished in
time for publication and contain no inaccuracies or errors of grammar,
spelling, or style. - Produce graphic tags, pictures and infographics for the news desks.
- Type in information for graphics, as required.
- Search clip art files when needed.
- Work with the design editor and other staff members to develop
innovative graphic-oriented projects. - Keep regular office hours.
- Attend required staff meetings and occasional desk meetings.
- Set individual goals each term to improve your journalistic skills.
Requirements: Must be enrolled as a student at the University of Oregon
during employment. As a salaried employee, hours will vary, but must be
able to work up to 15 hours a week, mostly in the evening.
