Emerald style. - Monitor freelance stories in progress to ensure no overlap with staff
stories. - Make sure all freelancers finish all writing on deadline.

tip
sheets, and when appropriate, by sending reporters out with a camera. - Organize freelance meetings, as appropriate.
- Drum up recruits by visiting appropriate journalism/writing classes,
and/or conducting open houses for freelancers (coordinated with the
editor), and/or operating information tables, and other means as
directed. - Make sure all freelancers are eligible to work at the Emerald.
- Advise the editor in chief on hiring decisions.
- Keep regular office hours (at least two hours a day, Sunday through
Thursday). - Attend required staff meetings.
- Attend calendar meetings once a week and budget meetings at 4:30
