Vacation, huh? It’s interesting, you always think of vacation to mean
time to relax and recoup, especially after being sick. But somehow what
is
sounding like so much fun turns into a hurried, stressful weekend
before you
even know it.
Take ski weekends, for example. You think fireplace, cabin in the
woods
and a day on the slopes, and nothing sounds more relaxing. Then, as it
approaches, the vacation looks to be more trouble that it’s worth. It
requires a rushed five-hour drive each way, frantically hurrying to get
there and back on time. Then, there’s a four-room cabin packed with 15
people, tensions running high as everyone steps on each other’s toes.
But,
of course, there is that beautiful day on the mountain — during which
I
spent way too much on a lift ticket I couldn’t use after the binding on
my
board broke early in the afternoon.
So I get back from my vacation still sick, now sleep-deprived from
staying up and partying and still trying to get up early for the
mountain
and to drive home, and feeling like I’d been out of the newsroom for
weeks:
What was all this about calling Onterrio Smith when you want to party?
Maybe next time I should rethink the concept of vacation.
