Politics and more politics. From the State of the Union address to
the
special election for Ballot Measure 28, it’s been a crazy week, with
political rantings run amok. I try harder than anything not to let
political
leanings, especially mine, into the newsroom, but it’s just so hard to
keep
some things to myself — especially with the more controversial issues
of
higher taxes and war.
Speaking of which, the same 12 kids are still sitting persistently
on the
steps of Johnson Hall to protest the impending war. Impending — that’s
certainly true. Looks like the American military will be dropping bombs
on
Iraq starting in early March.
In lighter news, a new month is here, and I couldn’t be more
excited.
Feb. 1
marks the start of Black History Month, 14 days later brings commercial
love by way
of flowers, chocolates and candy hearts with inscribed messages, and
the end
of the month brings the last bit of good snow for the season, for which
I am
most excited. Next weekend, I’ll be boarding my heart out and partying
with
friends at my roommate’s cabin in the woods.
Can’t wait — it’s definitely time for a vacation.
