Multnomah County began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples Feb. 04
for the first time in Oregon history, making the county the fourth local government
in the United States to do so. The decision has propelled Oregon into the national
debate on the issue, and with so many cultural and governmental viewpoints,
no conclusion to the controversy is in sight.
