Online presidential debate
responses to be posted Oct. 19
Students who have unanswered questions after watching the televised presidential debates will have a chance to seek answers beginning Tuesday as candidates George W. Bush, Sen. John Kerry and Ralph Nader participate in an online debate. Sponsored by the New Voters Project, the debate will feature the candidates’ responses to 12 questions posed by voters ages 18 to 35.
The debate questions cover student issues, including morality, Social Security, the draft, drug policy and the environment.
A complete list of the questions is available online at the New Voters Project Web site, www.newvotersproject.org.
A non-partisan panel of moderators selected 20 of the more than 5,000 questions that were initially submitted online as semi-finalists, according to the group’s Web site. Students 18 to 35 were then able to vote online to choose the top 10 questions, which were incorporated into the final list sent to the candidates.
Rebuttals of 500 words or less will be posted on Oct. 19.
The New Voters Project is a national, non-partisan campaign that aims to increase voter turnout among 18 to 24-year-olds. The group is sponsored by the state Peer Interest Research Groups and The George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management.
