– Oregon football has the highest likelihood of finishing 11-1 or better — 69 percent — than all other teams in the nation, according to pre-spring models and numbers by ESPN.com. The model, which takes into account the team’s likelihood of contending for one of the four spots in the college football playoffs, has the Ducks ranked No. 2 behind Alabama. Stanford is ranked sixth.
– Oregon’s Mike Moser earned his second-straight Pac-12 player of the week honor after his performance against the Arizona schools this past week. The senior from Portland, Ore., scored 22 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field and grabbed 17 rebounds against Arizona State. Against Arizona, Moser scored 10 points and grabbing 10 boards.
– Former Oregon basketball coach Ernie Kent sat down with the Oregonian’s Andrew Grief on Monday to discuss the Ducks’ potential postseason attitude heading into this weekend’s Pac-12 tournament in Las Vegas. Kent, currently a Pac-12 network analyst, said about the team: “The scariest thing is that they’ve got their swag back.”
– Oregon’s acrobatics and tumbling team returns to Matthew Knight Arena Monday night for its second home meet of the season against Quinnipiac & Azusa Pacific. All three teams are undefeated so far this season and will square off at 7 p.m. Oregon will be looking to extend its win streak of 22 matches and build towards defending its three straight NCATA National Championships. Emerald sports reporter Joseph Hoyt profiled the team’s training to prevent injury in preparation for meets.
– Oregon baseball exploded for 20 runs against Ohio State yesterday at P.K. Park. The Ducks improved to 12-4, including two wins in three games over the weekend and improving to 4-1 in the last week. Oregon bounced back after being shut out on Saturday and is preparing for Pac-12 play against USC next weekend. The team is now ranked 12th nationally, according to Baseball America’s polls released today. USA Today Coach’s poll and Collegiate Baseball both have the Ducks at No. 9 in America.
– Over the weekend, all eyes were on Eugene for a nationally televised showcase against Arizona in men’s basketball. The Ducks pulled off the 64-57 upset of the Wildcats, picking up lots of momentum heading into the Pac-12 tournament this weekend, where the Ducks will square off against their foes from up the road, Oregon State. Arizona Daily Star columnist Gary Hansen was in town over the weekend to witness the upset, and wrote a column detailing what Arizona needs to right before NCAA tournament time.
– Oregon tennis senior Robin Cambier made history over the weekend against Portland. The Brussels, Belgium native surpassed Sven Swinnen to become Oregon’s all-time leader in career singles victories with 85 in his match against Portland. Cambier now holds eight program records and is 85-36 in singles play as a Ducks.
– Oregon State pitcher Jace Fry threw the fifth no-hitter in school history in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Northern Illinois. Fry, a junior from Beaverton, Ore., struck-out a career high 10 batters and allowed just two baserunners on walks issued in the fifth and ninth innings. Fry’s no-no was the school’s first since Josh Osich’s outing at UCLA on April 30, 2011. Oregon will first clash with its instate rival Oregon State this season for a homestand on April 25-27 in Corvallis.
