Oregon finished twelfth in the Stanford Intercollegiate this weekend with 879 total strokes (+27). Caroline Inglis recorded the lowest total score for the Ducks with a 218 (+5), which tied for 43rd in the tournament.
The Ducks continued to compete against some of the nation’s top programs. Five of the seventeen participating teams are in the top ten of Golfstat.com’s national rankings, including first-ranked Washington. However, it was no. 3 Stanford and no. 6 USC who tied for the tournament victory with 837 strokes (-15) apiece. No. 8 UCLA’s Bronte Law won the individual competition with a 205 (-8). Three ruins managed to finish in the top four of the standings.
Last season, Oregon fared much better in the same tournament, finishing in sixth place with a score of 863 (+11).
Cathleen Santoso, who has had the most impressive fall season of any Duck, was unable to finish her first round on Friday due to illness. Nonetheless, she returned to post score of 71 on Saturday and 70 on Sunday, which was easily the best score for the over the two-day span.
Cassy Isagawa got off to a blazing start in the first round with a birdie at the first hole, followed by four consecutive pars, and an eagle on the seventh. Beginning with a double-bogey on the ninth hole, however, she struggled in the second half of the round. Isagawa’s 72 (+1), was still the lowest of the day for the Ducks, who finished at 296 strokes.
Inglis led the Ducks on Saturday as the team recorded its lowest score in any round this season. Inglis managed to score 70 (-1) largely because of her fifteen pars, which tied for the most out of anyone in the tournament that round. The Ducks as a whole totaled a 290, which was the sixth-best finish for the day, while Inglis sat 27th on the leader board for the tournament. Isagawa struggled dramatically compared to her first round, finishing with a score of 82 (+11)
Though the Ducks added to the previous day’s score with a 293 on Sunday, they jumped two places in the tournament standings, edging out UC Davis (no. 19) by two strokes. Inglis could not repeat her success from Saturday, as she shot a 75 (+4), her worst of the weekend. With scores of 75, 73 and 72, freshman Caroline Inglis managed to improve each day of the tournament.
Oregon will rest the next two weekends before finishing its fall season on Monday, Nov. 3 and Tuesday Nov. 4th. The Ducks will compete in the Nanea Pac-12 Preview in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
