Nobel Laureate and former Vice President Al Gore will broadcast via a live webcast tonight to call on young people across the country to get out the vote and hold elected leaders accountable for climate change and clean energy campaign promises. The Eugene Power Vote Crew, the Oregon Bus Project and OSPIRG will host a watch party at 5 p.m. in the EMU Fir Room. After the webcast students and community members will do a Trick-or-Vote “dorm-storm,” during which students will knock on doors to talk with voters.
Monica Vaughan, a recent University graduate and Northwest Power Vote coordinator, said student activism can “counter the corporate power that seems to have the candidates’ attention.”
“A really big component of the youth movement that’s going on right now is the desire for a clean energy economy, and a social justice response to climate change,” she said.
