How/Why do you want to change the world?
I want to be able to help change the education system and provide more resources for students of color. Many school funds are allocated for schools within communities that are more privileged. This is something that I have seen here in Eugene and back in my home state, Idaho. It is something that must change so our students all receive an education with equal opportunities.
What are you proud to have been involved with at University of Oregon?
I am proud to be a part of the only multicultural fraternity on campus. Through this organization I have held multiple leadership positions like president, vice president, media relations chair, and academic chair. I was an after school program coordinator for middle school students in the Eugene area through MEChA, Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztl√°n. I have also been a part of the Student Leadership Team for the Center for Multicultural Academic Excellence (CMAE) and a mentor through The Intercultural Mentoring Program Advancing Community Ties (IMPACT).
Who is your biggest role model and why?
My biggest role model is my mom. She has overcome so many obstacles in her life that weren’t easy to navigate. She is a true hero who never gives up and does everything in her power to be the best mom. Although my mom hasn’t been able to pursue higher education, she has done that through all her children.
What are your goals after college?
My goals after college are to get a full time job, travel around the country, and attend grad school within the next two years.
