No. 17 Oregon volleyball finished its weekend in the Bay Area with a sweep over Cal on Saturday night.
Lindsey Vander Weide led the Ducks with 16 kills and 13 digs as Oregon split its weekend after a 3-1 loss at No. 2 Stanford on Thursday. As a team, Oregon hit at .383 while putting up four aces and six service errors.
The third and final set was close as Cal came back from an 18-13 deficit to tie it at 19, but Oregon took back a two-point lead and brought it to match point. But, Cal fought back three match points to tie it up again at 24, culminating on back-to-back attack errors by Oregon.
However, Cal’s fight back fell short as Oregon won the third set 26-24 on block from Vander Weide and Ronika Stone.
The Ducks and Golden Bears played a close first set with back-and-forth points between the two teams. The score was tied at 23 but a Vander Weide ace gave the Ducks set point, and Taylor Borup capitalized on it with a kill to give Oregon the first set, 25-23.
The second set was far less close as Oregon ran away with it, 25-15, as Oregon held the 2-0 advantage at intermission.
The Ducks return home for a quick turnaround with a match on Wednesday, when Oregon hosts Utah, which is coming off an upset win over No. 20 Arizona.
