Oregon loses 20-30
End of live updates
Media is heading to the field for the final portion of the game. Live updates have concluded. Thank you for following along!
TOUCHDOWN, Indiana
Touchdown, Hoosiers. Mendoza finds Sarratt with Obidegwu in coverage. The redshirt-freshman asks for a push-off call, doesn’t get it. PAT is good, Hoosiers lead, 27-20.
Autzen crowd stands up again
Third-and-1 became third-and-6 again, after a false start from the Hoosiers. Ducks have a massive advantage in the crowd, and it’s paying off today. Mendoza finds Sarratt anyway, and it’s first-and-10 for Indiana from the Oregon 36-yard line.
Brandon Finney Jr. bails the Ducks out. TOUCHDOWN, OREGON (Finney, pick-six): 20-20
On third-and-2, Indiana looks for the shot. Brandon Finney Jr. undercuts E.J. Williams Jr. and takes it all the way back for a much-needed score.
Huge play for the true freshman, who’s been on the Hoosiers’ best all day. Ducks tie it back up at 20.
Ducks can’t convert.
On third-and-11, Wyatt is left totally uncovered and sacks Moore for a four-yard loss. Ducks will punt, down seven, from their own 33-yard line with 14:23 left. Punt lands at Indiana 14-yard line.
End Q3: Indiana 20-13 Oregon
The Hoosiers held the Ducks to a field goal in the second quarter and added a touchdown of their own to take the lead into the final 15 minutes. Oregon looked like it was getting its offense going, but slowed down and finds itself in third-and-11 at the quarter break.
Oregon, which leads in both yards and time of possession, is looking for a spark. Its explosive players (Dierre Hill Jr. and Kenyon Sadiq) have been nonfactors so far.
More mental mistakes lead to Indiana touchdown. Hoosiers lead, 20-13.
Teitum Tuioti took advantage of an Omar Cooper Jr. stumble on a reverse to put the Hoosiers in second-and-15, but Indiana got it right back (and more) with a swing pass to Hemby and a Mixon missed tackle. On first-and-goal from the 10-yard line, Obidegwu gets called for his second pass interference of the drive and sets up the Hoosiers on the 3-yard line.
Indiana punches it in with Hemby (his second score) on the next play, and goes up 20-13 after the PAT.
Atticus Sappington ties it up.
Oregon got to fourth-and-2 and elected to go to Sappington from the 16-yard line. He’s good from 33 yards out, and we’re knotted up at 13 with 7:10 left in the third quarter.
Another fourth-down try from the Ducks
Oregon, with great field position, gets one yard on the first three downs before going for it on fourth-and-9. Moore finds Jeremiah McClellan on a curl over the middle to convert, and the Ducks (2-3 on fourth down today) are in business.
Ify Obidegwu is good.
Ify Obidegwu forced incompletions twice on Elijah Sarratt after the Hoosiers set up shop on their own 2-yard line to get Indiana to punt. Great field position for Oregon after Bryant makes more men miss, leaves the Ducks on the Indiana 38-yard line.
Ducks can’t take advantage of three-and-out, punt (but with style)
After forcing the quick punt, Oregon gets backed up after an Alex Harkey holding call and ends up punting from the 50-yard line. Ferguson-Reynolds looks like he might keep it and rolls right, then punts and rolls it all the way to the Indiana 2-yard line, where it’s downed by Dillon Thieneman.
Hello, Kenyon Sadiq.
Kenyon Sadiq, after going the entire first half without a touch, gets a ball on the first play of the half and takes it for a first down. Ducks set up on their own 48-yard line.
Quickly back to the Ducks
Hoosiers go three-and-out, net negative one yard on the opening drive and punt to Oregon’s 35-yard line. Huge opening statement for a Ducks defense that struggled to slow down the Hoosiers’ offense in the first half. Also just announced: attendance (mostly in yellow) is 59,625.
Back for more.
Atticus Sappington knocks it out of the endzone. Hoosiers, up three, get the ball on their own 25 to begin the second half. Big half hour of football upcoming.
End first half: Indiana 13-10 Oregon
The two top-10 teams complete a first half with 23 combined points and sputtering offenses with a 58-yard field goal from Brandon Franke. Indiana leads, 13-10, and will get the ball out of the break.
Dante Moore finished 11-17 for 123 yards and a touchdown, while Mendoza was 10-15 for 110 yards. The Hoosiers’ receivers gave Oregon’s young corners real trouble throughout, which led the Ducks to rotate through their first and second-string pairs.
Jordon Davison led all rushers with 55 yards on the ground (Oregon had 80 total), but the Ducks struggled with mental errors — including a huge pass interference penalty on the final drive that pushed the Hoosiers into Franke’s field goal range. Oregon had four flags for 40 yards, while the Hoosiers had five for 30.
Wide left.
Back-to-back 18-yard completions to Bryant and Dakorien Moore out of the break set Oregon up on the 23-yard line with 1:40 to go. Ducks have a snap infraction, though, and backed up to the 28-yard line. Davison (7 carries, 55 yards) gets some of it back, but Oregon has to settle for the field goal from the 18-yard line on fourth-and-5.
Sappington misses wide left, though, and keeps it tied at 10.
Moore, Oregon thriving in the hurry-up offense before the 2-minute timeout
Oregon gets the ball moving with some hurry-up offense before the 2-minute timeout. More carries for Jordon Davison, who’s making guys miss, before a couple quick snaps to Jayden Limar set Oregon up in second-and-7 on their own 41 at the timeout.
Ducks force punt after getting Hoosiers into third and long
Even given plenty of time, the Ducks manage to flush Mendoza and Blake Purchase comes in for the hit on the Hoosiers quarterback, who sails it out of bounds. Indiana punts, Oregon gets the ball on its own 11-yard line with 4:19 left.
Dante Moore takes a sack, Ducks punt
Dante Moore, in third-and-10, took a big sack from linebacker Isaiah Jones. Ferguson-Reynolds punt leaves the Hoosiers right on their own 30-yard line. Oregon has now taken three sacks today, for 22 yards.
Another false start backs up the Hoosiers…and they’ll punt.
The Autzen crowd came up big again. Lined up to go for it, a Hoosier false starts (fourth presnap penalty today) and puts IU in fourth-and-6. Gary Bryant makes a couple miss on the kick, but a holding penalty backs the ball up to their own 21-yard line.
Brandon Finney Jr. comes up big
Finney and Obidegwu are back in, and the former comes up big against Elijah Sarratt on third-and-1. Hoosiers look like they might go for it, then a flag is thrown and Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti gets animated in the official’s face. Waiting for confirmation on distance to go; right now scoreboard reads fourth-and-1 from IU 34-yard line.
Moore takes a third-down sack, Ducks kick the field goal: Oregon 10-10 Indiana
Dante Moore rolled right on third-and-6, but took a three-yard sack and Sappington knocks it through to even the score at 10. Ducks get the rushing attack going — now up to 60 on the day — and leaned on Jordon Davison (36 rushing yds, leads game) throughout.
9:18 left in the half for the Hoosiers.
Stop-and-start offense for the Ducks begins to rev its engine
Oregon got into first down near the red zone, but an Iapani Laoulu holding penalty gets the Ducks back in second-and-18. Davison gets seven on the next play, but a long play sees Moore flip late to Jayden Limar, who takes a huge hit.
Ducks get the benefit of a defensive holding flag, though, and set up in first-and-10 on the Indiana 23-yard line.
Oregon elects to go for it on fourth down, Jordon Davison flexes his ability.
In fourth-and-1, Oregon lines up to go and hands to Davison, who motioned in as a fullback. He goes straight up the middle for the first down. Ducks now 1-2 on the day on fourth. Immediately after, Davison gets the handoff again, breaks a tackle on the second level and rumbles for 26 yards to set Oregon up on the Indiana 32-yard line.
Ducks back in fourth-and-1
Dante Moore got a couple yards and took a hit on third-and-3, but leaves the Ducks in a short fourth down. There’s an injured Hoosier — lineman Kellan Wyatt, who gets up and walks off under his own power. Punting decision to come.
End Q1: update
After one, it’s Oregon 7, Indiana 10. The Ducks struggled to get started on offense for a couple of drives, but Dante Moore and Malik Benson connected for a big score. Indiana, though, moved the ball well against Oregon’s secondary and got into field goal range before scoring from the 3-yard line just before the quarter break.
TOUCHDOWN, HOOSIERS (Roman Hemby): Oregon 7-10 Indiana
Fernando Mendoza got the Hoosiers into first-and-goal with a great 14-yard keeper on third-and-4 in the red zone before Roman Hemby punched it in right away. Hoosiers up, 10-7, with 15 seconds left in the first quarter. Indiana is really moving the ball well, getting great separation — especially against Theran Johnson, who’s getting extended reps alongside Sione Laulea. We saw the regular starters (Brandon Finney and Ify Obidegwu) earlier but have seen Johnson on multiple drives this game.
TOUCHDOWN, DUCKS (Malik Benson): Oregon 7-3 Indiana
Oregon gets into third-and-3, but Malik Benson splits the nickel and deep safety to get wide open for the score. Dante Moore finds one of his favorite targets with a strong throw, and Oregon kicks the PAT to make it 7-3. The offense might have woken up. Great look.
Another false start — and a big one.
Hoosiers lineman Drew Evans false started on third-and-1 to put them in third-and-6, instead. Ducks hold up receivers downfield and get the sack on Mendoza courtesy of A’Mauri Washington. Indiana lines up to punt it away, but can’t get the snap off and draws a delay-of-game penalty. That’s three on the day, and the Ducks show pressure for the punt, get a short kick and the ball all the way at their own 49-yard line.
Three-and-out for the Ducks on second drive
Oregon gets the ball back, but goes nowhere with a Dierre Hill Jr. carry, Jordon Davison swing pass and incompletion near the sticks to Malik Benson. Ducks are averaging 2.1 yards per play after two drives. Punt lands Indiana on its own 22-yard line.
Johnson pass breakup, field goal made, crowd is loud
Johnson came right back and deflected a third-down pass attempt from Mendoza to Sarratt. Hoosiers, in fourth-and-7 from the Oregon 19-yard line, line up the field goal but false start, to the delight of the Autzen Stadium crowd. Back on the 24-yard line, Nicolas Radicic sends it through to put Indiana up 3-0 early.
Hoosier explosive early
Ducks cornerback Theran Johnson was in coverage on Elijah Sarratt, but gets lost on the deep route and Mendoza completes for 24 yards to the Oregon 22-yard line. It’s an immediate explosive play for a Ducks defense that hasn’t given up many this year.
First drive recap
It’s not the first drive the Ducks would’ve wanted — they got into third down multiple times, including a third-and-long that was converted on a screen pass — and they end with a turnover on downs. Dante Moore goes 2-2 for 16 yards, and Noah Whittington gets most of the carries.
Oregon keeps the fourth-down conversion attempts going.
Oregon got into fourth-and-1, and handed to Jordon Davison, but the true freshman couldn’t get the yard over the right side and the Ducks turn it over on downs on their own 46-yard line.
First-play sack leaves Ducks behind the sticks, but Moore and Bryant Jr. get it back
Despite a nice blitz pickup from Noah Whittington, Dante Moore was sacked for a 6-yard loss on the first play from scrimmage. Whittington gets five back on second down, but third down leaves Oregon in empty. Gary Bryant Jr. gets the screen pass and goes all the way for a first down.
Underway!
Hoosiers send it out of the back of the endzone and set up Dante Moore and co. on the 25-yard line.
Indiana wins the toss, Ducks get the ball
The Hoosiers won the toss, and chose to defer. Ducks will get the ball first, driving from east to west.
Yellow-out looking solid…with some Hoosier red
Oregon’s color theme is looking on point — but there’s a solid contingent of Hoosiers in the away section watching the Duck dance on the field. Eight minutes to kick!
20 minutes to kickoff!
The teams are finished with warmups, and the band is on the field for pregame. We’re expecting kickoff at 12:40 — 20 minutes away.
Availability report: Receiver downgraded to ‘Out for season’
It’s two hours to game time, and the official Big Ten availability reports have been released. It’s mostly as-expected for the Ducks, except for a downgrade: Redshirt-junior receiver Kyler Kasper, who was listed as “Out” against Penn State two weeks ago, is now listed as “Out for season” — the second player to have that tag for Oregon after offensive lineman Bryce Boulton picked it up earlier this year. Nickel Daylen Austin, who has served as the second-string behind Jadon Canady is also listed as questionable.
