After the Oregon volleyball team defeated USC on November 23, head coach Jim Moore was pretty confident about Oregon’s chances of being one of the 16 national seeds with the NCAA Tournament bracket announcement a week away.
After back-to-back losses to end the season, including a 3-1 thrashing at the hands of rival Oregon State, the Ducks’ chances of being one of those seeds was in jeopardy.
As predicted, coach Moore was right as the Ducks (21-9) were just announced as the No. 10 national seed and will play host to Santa Clara, Oklahoma and LSU in the first and second rounds of the tournament.
Oregon’s opponent will be Santa Clara (22-9) in the first round while Oklahoma (20-10) will face LSU (19-8) in the other first round game at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene on Thursday, Dec. 4. The winners of those two first round games will then meet on Friday with the right to move on to the regional in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Ducks were 7-8 against nationally ranked opponents this season, with four of those losses coming to No. 1 overall seed Stanford and No. 3 seed Washington, respectively.
