Against UCLA, the Oregon men’s tennis team was outmatched.
The No. 51 ranked Ducks fell 7-0 to the No. 15 ranked Bruins in Los Angeles Friday, falling to 11-5 (0-1 Pac-12) this season.
UCLA won the first doubles point by way of Joseph Di Gulio and Karue Sell as they took down Oregon’s Daan Maasland and Joey Swaysland 6-1. Soon after, Oregon’s Jayson Amos and Daniel Sardu fell to their UCLA opponents 6-4.
Brent Chin couldn’t match UCLA’s Ryoto Tachi, and fell 6-1, making it a 2-0 Bruin lead. UCLA clinched the match shortly after Maasland’s loss to the No. 26 ranked singles player, Dennis Mkrtchian, 6-4, 6-3. Sardu fell to the No. 101-ranked player on the second court, 6-3, 6-3, to wrap up the win for UCLA, who improves to 10-6, 1-0.
UCLA took the other three singles matches, although Amos fought hard to win his first set, but lost in the third set.
Despite the sweep, the Ducks picked up opening set wins from Amos, Cormac Clissold and Swaysland.
The Ducks are back in action tomorrow in Los Angeles against No. 9 USC at 12 p.m.
