The Ducks put on a show Monday with an overpowering 7-0 win over University of Pacific. Oregon ends its non-conference schedule with an 11-4 record and remains unbeaten (8-0) at home.
Daniel Sardu and Jayson Amos continued to impress on doubles court three, making quick work of Alex Hamilton and Bernando Oliveira 6-1. Sardu is now tied with Odel Teig (1999-2003) for the most career doubles wins in school history with 65. Only Robin Cambier (2010-14) has more with 93.
Daan Maasland and Joey Swaysland followed suit on court one with a 6-4 takedown of Jose Chamba and Miguel Diaz, the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year.
Maasland was one of several Ducks who dug his way out a hole to earn his singles win.
“It wasn’t the easiest match as a team,” Maasland said. “Some of us didn’t start very well, but we found a way and it shows that we are good fighters.”
Sardu led Alex Hamilton 6-3, 1-1 when Hamilton was forced to leave the match due to injury, giving Sardu the point. His singles win improves his singles record to 16-3 this season.
Amos won his third straight singles match with a 6-2, 6-3 thrashing of Daniel Alameh to extend Oregon’s lead to 3-0. Amos leads the team with 18 wins to go with seven losses this season.
Simon Stevens extended his winning streak to 11 matches with a convincing 6-4, 6-2 win over Chamba, clinching the match for the Ducks.
Cormac Clissold, Maasland and Swaysland were all able to grind out victories to round out the perfect day for Oregon. Today’s shutout is Oregon’s fifth this season, each of which has come at home in the Student Tennis Center.
Six of Oregon’s wins this season have come against opponents ranked in the top-75 of ITA’s team rankings.
Now that they’re on spring break, the Ducks will devote their week to preparing for its road trip to southern California. Oregon will face UCLA at noon this Friday in a televised match on Pac-12 Networks, then USC on Saturday at noon.
