A University of Oregon student is missing after the earthquake in Nepal.
Amber Brazil, an environmental studies major, is reported missing in the aftermath of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal according to Eugene Daily News.
The earthquake has claimed more than 3,800 lives, with aftershocks occurring throughout the nation. An aftershock yesterday reached a magnitude of 6.7 outside the capital of Kathmandu — the same magnitude as the 1994 North ridge Earthquake.
On April 20, Brazil and her travel partner Alicia Scroggins set out in a 7 day trek at the Langtang National Park, located 93 miles east of the earthquake’s epicenter outside the city of Pokhara, 39 miles north of Kathmandu, the two were expected to return to the capital on the 28th.
Brazil had previously been to Thailand, where she was completing an internship towards a University of Oregon Bachelor of Science degree in environmental studies.
There are four Nepalese students currently studying at the UO, and they have teamed up with the Eugene/Kathmandu Sister City Association. They are currently raising funds to send back home for immediate assistance, such as food, shelter, sanitation and water.
