The buzz surrounding Marcus Mariota’s departure has naturally begun to fizzle down. The 2015 NFL draft, which is set for an April 30 start, is a couple weeks away. Mariota has been projected to go in the top five by most.
But that doesn’t mean reminiscing Mariota’s accomplishments have halted. Offensive coordinator Scott Frost was even asked to list some of his favorite moments of the individual who he calls the “smartest player he’s ever been around” Monday.
Frost, who believes the program has dealt with departures as well as anyone, remained optimistic about the handful of quarterback prospects who are patiently waiting in line. He is looking forward to seeing how his offense will try and fill the undeniable void that is Mariota.
“Every time we lose a guy around here that people don’t think we can win without, the program seems to survive and really thrive,” Frost said. “Obviously, I think Marcus is the best Oregon Duck football player that’s ever played here. Whoever plays next has some big shoes to fill, but this team will be alright.”

Since Charles Nelson was asked to switch positions from wide receiver to cornerback, adjusting has become a constant.
In general though, Nelson has embraced his new role, putting his full trust in his coaches.
“I would say I stepped up a little bit since the first time I started playing there,” Nelson said. “Like I said, there’s a lot of work to be done and that’s what coach Neal is doing: trying to get us all on the same page. Hopefully things work out.”

Mark Helfrich has remained vague when discussing the quarterback battle.
Every practice, Helfrich has continued to encourage the progress of each and every quarterback. Helfrich, highlighted Jeff Lockie and Travis Jonsen’s performance on Monday in particular.
“Lockie has been outstanding,” Helfrich said. “Waller has definitely taken some steps forward as well.”
