Four-star Destrehan High School running back Kirk Merritt verbally committed to the University of Oregon on Monday.
Merritt, the No. 4 ranked all-purpose running back from Destrehan, Louisiana, committed at a gathering in his hometown.
Merritt has already had success in Oregon. At the Opening in Beaverton, Merritt wowed scouts by winning the Sparq national championship, given to the athlete that posted the best cumulative numbers in a variety of workouts and drills.
Merritt (5-foot-11, 206 pounds) chose Oregon over Auburn, Texas A&M and Alabama.
According to Andrew Lopez of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Merritt was being recruited as a running back and as a slot receiver. Merritt also played wide receiver at Destrehan.
