Not into 50 Shades of Grey? Too broke to spend $10 on a movie ticket? Not to worry. I’ve made a list of some of the sexiest flicks you can watch in the comfort of your own home. Many of these can be found on Netflix and other movie-sharing sites, or are available to rent online.
So, whether you’re snuggling up with your significant other or drowning yourself in wine, these films are sure to get everyone a little hot and bothered.
La vie d’Adèle (Blue is the Warmest Color)
This French film from 2013 is one of the most intimate films of romantic cinema. Adèle is a high-school-aged girl who begins to discover that she’s bisexual. She meets Emma, an intriguing artist with blue hair, at a gay bar. What follows are some long sex scenes with interesting camera angles and no added soundtrack. It’s refreshing in this film that the sex scenes mirror reality and are even more beautiful in their simplicity than a typical feature film depiction. The film follows the couple’s relationship through its ups and downs, ending with a sad but hopeful tone.
Boogie Nights
Though Boogie Nights came out in 1997, it’s staged in the late ’70s/early ’80s and follows a young man as he enters into the booming porn industry of the time. The film is full of sex, disco fever and a ton of awesome actors, including Mark Wahlberg as the main character, Julianne Moore, John C. Reilly, Heather Graham and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
Black Swan
This psychological thriller is definitely a darker brand of sexy. The film, released in 2010, isn’t about love, romance or sex primarily. It’s a haunting account of a young ballerina, played by Natalie Portman, who slowly drifts into a frightening mental state as she becomes more and more obsessed with her dream role as the swan in a ballet production of Swan Lake. Nonetheless, the scene when Portman’s character hooks up with a fellow ballerina, played by Mila Kunis, is every bit as hot as it sounds.
Magic Mike
Magic Mike is the film you should be watching on Valentine’s Day if you’re getting together with all of your single ladies. It’s pretty much like going to see the Chippendales in the comfort of your own home. If you like the idea of seeing Matthew McConaughey hip-thrust in every direction or Channing Tatum twerking to Ginuwine’s “Pony,” then this movie is for you.
Love and Other Drugs
Love and Other Drugs starts with a spontaneous, smokin’ hot sex scene between Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal in the back room of a coffee shop where Hathaway’s character works. Like many romance stories, the film starts out sexy and fun and then turns rather tragic. Maggie (Hathaway) has Parkinson’s disease, which begins to worsen as time goes on. While Maggie is accepting of this disease in her life, Jamie (Gyllenhaal) insists on fighting endlessly for a cure to her ailment.
No Strings Attached
This 2011 film starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher is lightheartedly sexy and a classical rom-com. These two characters play friends who begin hooking up just for the sex, as they both decidedly don’t have time or interest in a relationship. They mutually become each other’s booty call and meet up for random quickies in between their busy schedules. When they start having feelings for each other, they try to deny it but without much success.
