Add Edward Cheserek and Brittany Mann to the list of Oregon athletes to break records this weekend as the Ducks participated in the Husky Classic, Don Kirby Elite Invitational and Millrose Games today, Saturday.
After Jenna Prandini broke a school record, winning the 200m dash at the Don Kirby Elite on Friday, Cheserek did the same with a time of 3:56.43 in the men’s Wanamaker Mile. Cheserek snatched the record from Daniel Winn, who had set it just 90 minutes earlier, clocking in at 3:57.62 at the Husky Classic. Overall, Cheserek finished eighth in his event. Teammate Johnny Gregorek finished tenth.
Brittany Mann broke a school record in the shot put with a 52-10 (16.10m) toss at the Husky Classic. Soon thereafter, she toppled her freshly-set record with a throw of 55-6.6 (16.93m). Mann currently ranks seventh in the nation and is in position to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
In the 3,000m at the Millrose Games, Eric Jenkins (7:44.91) and Will Ge0ghegan (7:45.71) finished first and second, respectively. Jenkins edged out professional runner Andy Bayer in the final laps, just missing Galen Rupp’s school record of 7:44.69 in 2009.
In New Mexico, Jasmine Todd (7.15) and Jenna Prandini (7.17) finished first and second, respectively, in the 60m dash. The two now sit second and third in the Oregon record books, behind English Garner (7.12 in 2012).
The Ducks’ 4×400 team of Jordan Latt, Arthur Delaney, Ben Thiel and Marcus Chambers won the event with a time of 3:08.99, which ranks ninth in the NCAA this season.
Tony James, running back for the football team, finished third in the 60m with a time of 7.72.
Freshman Nate Moore recorded a jump of 51-10.5 (15.81m) on his final attempt of the day. Moore finished as the top collegian in the event and third overall. The mark ranks second in school history behind only Leonidas Watson (16.11m in 2004).
The Ducks have almost two weeks off before participating in the MPSF Championships, Feb, 27-28 in Seattle. It will be the final meet before the NCAA Championships in mid-March.
