Oregon distance runner Edward Cheserek was named the West Regional Male Athlete of the Year for the 2015 NCAA Division I Cross Country season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Tuesday afternoon.
The regional awards handed out are for male and female athletes of the year and men’s and women’s coach of the year. Votes by the coaches in each division decide the recipients.
Cheserek took the West Region award after turning in yet another impressive season. His regular season included victories at the Pac-12 and West Region championships. The junior also won the Washington Invitational and finished as the runner-up at the Pre-National Invitational.
This is the second time in his career that Cheserek has earned the award, as he also took home the hardware in 2013.
Rounding out the awards for the West Region were Boise State’s Allie Ostrander as Women’s Athlete of the Year, Washington’s Greg Metcalf as Men’s Coach of the Year and Boise State’s Corey Ihmels as Women’s Coach of the Year.
