Pumpkin Beer Week – 16 Tons Taphouse (265 E 13th Ave)
16 Tons Taphouse is hosting its own pre-Halloween party with a new pumpkin beer being served each day this week, as well as concocting some candy and beer flights. This Friday, they’re serving pumpkin beer floats made with Ninkasi’s Imperial Pumpkin Sleigh’r and Red Wagon ice cream. This way, you can drink like an adult but still act like a child. Plus, on Saturday, 16 Tons is having its Release of the Dark Ales festival with 20 imperial stouts, porters and other dark brews. 21+.

ParaNorman presented by Eugene Film Society and Red Wagon Creamery – Hult Center for the Performing Arts (7th Ave & Willamette St).
ParaNorman, the 3D stop-motion animated horror comedy is an Academy Award-nominated film produced by LAIKA, the Hillsboro-based animation company that also made The Boxtrolls and Coraline. LAIKA Head of Puppetry Georgina Hayns will provide a live presentation following the movie. Complimentary ice cream provided by Red Wagon Creamery. Starts at 2 p.m. $10-$20.
7th Annual Brewpublic KillerBeerFest: Halloween Edition – The Bier Stein Bottleshop and Pub (1591 Willamette St).
Twenty-five specialty brews on tap, including Thunder Island Pumpkin Scotch Porter, 54 40′ Brewing & The Commons Scooby Doo, Upright’s Blend of Fantasia & SevenBlock, 15 Demon’s Farm CASK. Photo booth + a costume contest in the evening. Starts at 11 a.m. and goes through midnight. Proceeds from event go to the National Brain Tumor Society.
2015 Eugene Film Society 72-Hour Horror Film Competition – Hult Center (7th Ave & Willamette St)
Last week, local filmmakers had 72 hours to create a short horror film that integrated a specific line of dialogue and prop. At this screening, all the short films will be presented, and the $1,000 Jury Prize and $1,000 Audience Awards will be handed out. 7 p.m. $15. 16+ only.
Beat Connection, Phantoms, Pluto the Planet – W.O.W. Hall (291 W 8th Ave)
W.O.W. Hall will welcome Seattle’s electronic outfit Beat Connection in this nocturnal electro lineup, fitting for a Halloween night. Beat Connection attracted a lot of attention with its recent singles and remixes, including ODESZA’s “All We Need.” L.A.’s moody electro group Phantoms and Eugene’s contagiously blissful Pluto the Planet will open. $10 advance; $12 at door. Doors open at 8 p.m., show starts at 9.

Mushroom Photography – Mount Pisgah Arboretum (34901 Frank Parrish Rd)
Nature photographer Dave Stone teaches the techniques involved in photographing mushrooms in this two-part workshop, beginning today from noon to 5 p.m. $30 Members, $35 Non-members. 12 p.m.- 5 p.m. Pre-registration required. The Frightuary – Lane Events Center (796 W 13th Ave)
A run-down fairground attraction called “The Carnival of Souls” is drawing guests in, but some never make it out. This labyrinth, home to ominous inhabitants and mind-bending visuals, is full of mystery and raw terror in equal measure. This is the final night of The Frightuary. Open from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets are $12, and $1 off with student ID.

Carrie The Musical – Hatfield Hall (1111 SW Broadway)
In 1988, a multi-million-dollar Broadway musical interpretation of Stephen King’s novel Carrie notoriously flopped. Now a cult classic of histrionic idiocy, this play stars the titular Carrie White, infamous for her ultra-lousy prom night that involved some intimidating jocks and a bucket of pig blood, returns to the theater in this Stumptown Stages production. Showing Thursday–Saturday, 7:30 p.m, Sunday at 2 p.m. $25-$40.
John Grant, Bright Light Bright Light – Doug Fir Lounge (830 E Burnside St)
Grant is one of the most compelling musicians around today. At once self-defeating and recklessly confident, Grant writes songs so demented, comical, pedantic, and viscerally personal, it’s as if you opened his diary and found out way more about him than you wanted to know. His newest album Grey Tickles, Black Pressure was released on Oct. 2. Welsh solo artist Bright Light Bright Light opens. 21+. $14-$15.

Ghost Town Halloween Hunt – Rossi Farms (3558 SE 118th Ave.)
Terrifying monsters, three haunted attractions, high-quality special effects and old, abandoned tombs are all involved in this 65,000-square-foot event in northeast Portland, which returns for its fourth year. Also: beer garden, original black-and-white horror films, and live entertainment on a nightly basis. $25-$60. 18+ on Oct. 30; 21+ on Halloween night.
5th Annual Bollywood Thriller Halloween Costume Party – Hawthorne Theatre (1507 SE 39th.)
Portland’s biggest international Halloween costume party will take over the Hawthorne Theatre on Halloween night. The event features a costume contest, a Bollywood Thriller Choreography at midnight, and Los Angeles’s DJ UV along with Justina Nashif (wielding an LED hula hoop). Also: dance lesson from DJ Prashant and a performance by Jai Ho! Dance Troupe. Tickets are $5 in advance, $10 at the door. 21+. Doors open at 9 p.m.

Zombie Cats From Mars – Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton St.)
This play focuses on Billy, a teenage sci-fi fanatic, who spots a UFO landing nearby. He soon realizes that alien cats have landed in his town to wreak havoc, murder Billy’s closest friends and family, and claw at the furniture (just speculating). $5. Showing Fri., Sat. (5 p.m.) and Sun. (6 p.m.) All ages.
