Oregon women’s golf recorded its lowest score on its final day of play at Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational in North Carolina on Sunday, but still dropped a spot to finish 13th out of eighteen teams. Oregon shot 12-over 300 on a day when freshman Kathleen Scavo record her first career eagle.
The Ducks, paired with members of the UNC-Wilmington and Kentucky teams, sat in 11th place after shooting a 14-over 302 on the first day of the tournament. They got off to a solid start but struggled in the latter half, finishing the final three holes at 9-over. The Ducks made ten birdies, five of which came from senior team captain Caroline Inglis. Inglis led the way with a 73(+1), and Scavo followed with a 75(+3), the second lowest score the day.
The Ducks shot 306 on the second day, but dropped a spot to 12th overall. Inglis and freshman Petra Salko both shot 75(+3) for the day. Inglis recorded two birdies on the back nine, but struggled in the second half. She birdied the second hole, but hit three bogeys and a double bogey over the final seven. Salko, on the other hand, started bogeyed and double-bogeyed her first two holes, but hit back-to-back birdies on the 18th and first holes and held par the rest of the round.
The Ducks had the best overall team round of the tournament on the third day, but couldn’t help dropping another spot to finish 13th. As a team they shot 12-over 300. Junior Cathleen Santoso and Salko each shot 74(+2), their lowest scores of the tournament.. After birdieing the 13th and second holes, Santoso was one-under par going into her final three holes, but bogeyed the eighth hole and double-bogeyed the 10th. Salk bogeyed once in each of her rounds and parred the rest of the holes.
Scavo hit two bogeys and a double bogey in the front nine, but came up with a big shot on a par-5: the first eagle of her career on the sixth hole. Scan went on to bogey one more hole and finish the day at 76(+4).
The Ducks shot a 302-306-300 on the weekend to to finish at 908(+44). The Duke Blue Devils were crowned champions for the second straight year with a 3-over par, thirteen strokes ahead of second place Arkansas.
The Ducks will get back in action in a week, when they head to Northern California to participate in the Stanford Collegiate tournament.
