After starting the season with five straight victories, the Ducks suffered their third consecutive defeat with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-19 and 25-23) loss to Texas-San Antonio, Monday evening in San Antonio, Texas.
Oregon was looking to rebound after losses to Texas and Nebraska, two teams tied at No. 4 in the nation, over the weekend but the Ducks were unable to capitalize on the road.
It seems the long trip away from home is finally getting to Oregon. The Ducks have been on the road since the end of August. They started their road stand with games in Philadelphia before they traveled to New York and Washington D.C. and finally finished up in Texas.
The Ducks came out swinging in the first set and notched 17 kills, but hit .095 in the set, by far their worst percentage of the match. They took the first set from Texas-San Antonio but were unable to capitalize on the momentum.
Oregon fell behind big in each of the next three sets and rallied late to give itself a chance. The Ducks went on runs of 8-1 in the second set and 8-3 in the fourth set, but Texas-San Antonio scored the final point each time.
Senior Martenne Bettendorf had one of her better games on the year, finishing with 22 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Lauren Page notched 10 kills while sophomore Taylor Agost and freshman Lindsey Vander-Weide added nine and eight kills, respectively.
The Ducks will try to get back to their winning ways when they face off with Texas State at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday before flying home.
