All it took was one run.
Alberto Mineo led off the bottom of the second inning with a triple to centerfield and then came around to score on an Adonis Paula single. Mineo crossing the plate was the only time the Emeralds — or the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes — would score in the game, giving Eugene a 1-0 victory.
With the win, Eugene salvaged a potential sweep and improved to 5-4 in the second half (22-26 on the year) while Salem-Keizer dropped to 6-3 (27-21).
Oscar De La Cruz got the victory for the Emeralds after throwing 6.0 innings and giving up just four hits while striking out seven. Craig Brooks threw a scoreless seventh and eighth inning before Pedro Araujo earned his first save of the year.
Eugene returns to action tomorrow when they take on Boise in a three-game series in Idaho.
