Arizona’s Charise Holloway drained a three-pointer with 8.5 seconds left in overtime to beat Oregon women’s basketball, 81-78, in overtime on Sunday afternoon in Tucson, Arizona.
Lexi Bando finished with 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting. Katelyn Loper tallied 16 points while Amanda Delgado finished with 13 points.
Jillian Alleyne tallied a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Drea Toler added seven points and seven assists.
The Ducks (8-11, 1-7 Pac-12) had a chance to answer Arizona’s late basket with a miracle heave at the buzzer in overtime, but couldn’t convert. It’s the team’s sixth straight Pac-12 loss.
“I think just a game of missed opportunities. I’m so disappointed right now,” head coach Kelly Graves told Terry Jonz on the Oregon IMG Sports Network after the game. “It’s just too bad. I thought we fought hard enough to win the game tonight.”
Oregon rallied at the end of regulation, down nine points with 4:55 to play. Loper hit a three-pointer with 2:26 left to play to cut the UA lead to 67-63 with 2:26 to play. Alleyne drained a layup with 1:34 left to make it 67-65. Arizona answered with a bucket, and Loper drained another three to make it 69-68 with 1:07 left. The Wildcats missed the ensuing free throws.
At the end of regulation, Toler made the second of two free throws to tie the game up at 69 with 22 seconds left.
The game remained tied in overtime, 78-78 with 30 seconds to play.
Arizona’s Labrittney Jones recored 30 points against UO. In addition, Candice Warthen finished with 15 points.
“I don’t think either team knows how to win,” Graves told Jonz. “And we both tried to throw it away 100 times to the other. And unfortunately, they were the last one standing.”
Oregon led Arizona 32-29 at the half. UO had its largest lead, eight, on a Megan Carpenter field goal with 2:12 left in the half, but UA went on a 7-2 run heading into the locker room. Arizona took its first lead of the game in the second half when it made the score 37-35.
“Everybody takes blame on games like this,” Graves told Jonz. “One play here or one play there could have changed the outcome.”
