–Crews broke ground Thursday for Jane Sanders Stadium, formerly Howe field, which is expected to be completed in March of next year.
Athletic director Rob Mullens expressed his excitement in an interview with goducks.com about finally being able to give the Oregon team the stadium they deserve. The team has made Women’s College World Series three of the last four years.
“For those young ladies, we haven’t been able to give them all we would have liked to – until now,” Mullens said.
– 45 Oregon Track & Field athletes are preparing for the NCAA Championships next weekend. The new meet format is getting attention, including remarks from head coach Robert Johnson.
– Lydia Giomi, of West Seattle High School, verbally committed to Oregon for the 2016 season. Her awards include Metro League MVP for the 2014-2015 season and member of the Seattle Times’ all-area team for 2015.
– Seven Oregon softball players earned Pac-12 All-academic honors, including Cheridan Hawkins on first team and Koral Costa and Danica Mercado on second team, while two Oregon baseball players Nick Catalano (outfielder) and Scott Heineman (first base) made the Pac-12 All-academic list.
– Three Oregon women’s golfers and two from men’s golf also made the Pac-12 All-Academic team Wednesday. Cathleen Santoso, Cali Hipp and Caroline Inglis made the cut for the Ducks on the women’s team, while men’s team honorees include Brandon McIver and Jonathan Woo.
– Prosepctsnation.com ranks Oregon fourth in women’s basketball recruits, with five total commits, four of which are Elite 100 commits.
