University student Max Chase was sentenced to two-years of probation and 80-hours of community service today after a judge found him guilty of criminal mischief in the first degree, according to Chris White, Eugene Police Department detective and officer in the case.
Chase, who was in the process of getting expelled from the University for his large number of infractions in student housing, did approximately $5,300 worth of damage to a Department of Public Safety patrol car in July 2010. He was accused of the crimes by eye witnesses in January 2012.
“He threw a bunch of stuff at it,” White said, who personally arrested Chase. “He went to the trash and found a watermelon, he kicked it, hit it, he grabbed a bench and threw it at the car. He threw a baseball through the windows, kicked the side view mirror off — that kind of stuff.”
Chase must also pay restitution to the University in the amount of $5,300, White said.
