The No. 7 Oregon golf team ended the first day of the NCAA Championships in Los Angeles slotted at 11th overall with an opening round score of seven-over 291.
A total of ten teams stand ahead of the Ducks in the standings, with two tied for second, two slotted at fourth and five tied at sixth. Second-ranked Alabama stands alone at the top of the leader board after shooting a one-over 285 in the first round, with No. 18 Florida and No. 4 Auburn tied at second with scores of four-over 288. Of the six Pac-12 teams involved, only No. 5 UCLA stands ahead of Oregon, in a tie for sixth.
Individually, senior Andrew Vijarro@@http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/players.cfm?tournament_id=3137&tournament_team_id=25@@ led the way for the Ducks with an opening round one-under 70, tying for 10th individually. Following in his stead were fellow seniors Eugene Wong, whose one-over 72 tied for 27th, and Daniel Miernicki (tied for 47th with a two-over 73). Junior Robbie Ziegler and freshman Jonathan Woo@@all names checked@@ rounded out Oregon’s top five with scores of five-over 76 (tied for 100th).
UCLA’s Anton Arboleda holds the individual lead after shooting a four-under 67 on Tuesday, with Kent State’s Corey Conners and Florida’s Tyler McCumber tied for second at three-under 68.@@names checked@@
