The ‘Best of Campus’ winners were determined by a student vote. The winners do not reflect the opinion of the Emerald.
The University has a growing Fraternity and Sorority Life that is full of deserving houses for the honor of being the best sorority. But this year the Pi Beta Phi fraternity for women takes the award, and for good reason.
The ladies of “Pi Phi” pride themselves on the qualities that make them not just great friends and students but also great members of their community. Lauren Bruhn, Pi Beta Phi chapter president, thinks that bringing the house together as a whole translates into being a positive force in the community.
“I am so incredibly proud that we can be a diverse group of exceptional women while still finding ways to cooperate and accomplish common goals that benefit our community,” Bruhn said.
On May 16, Pi Beta Phi held its philanthropic event at which members of the sorority could be “pied” for a cost, and the proceeds went to support the sorority’s national philanthropy, literacy. In addition to it being an enjoyable event for all in attendance, the money raised to support literacy was clearly a focus for the sorority because they wanted to make a difference.
In addition to being active members in the community through philanthropy, the ladies of Pi Phi are one of the elite academic chapters at the University. They hold a reputation around campus for being a “smart sorority,” and that is a title that is most deserved as they maintain one of the top GPAs in fraternity and sorority life.
The focus on being a well-rounded sorority — covering academics, community and philanthropy — makes Pi Beta Phi deserving of this award. If they maintain their level of campus involvement and academic excellence, it may be a title they hold in the future as well.
