The University’s School of Law will offer undergraduate students two classes this spring term, marking the first time the law school has ever done so.
On Feb. 27, undergraduate students registering for classes will be able to sign up for two law courses: American Law and Environmental Law and Policy. Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Adell Amos@@http://law.uoregon.edu/faculty/aamos/@@ said that these new courses are aimed at getting undergraduate students interested in law as well as integrating the law school into the University as a whole.
“One of Dean (Michael) Moffitt’s priorities is better integration between the law school and the rest of campus,” Amos said.  “Since the undergraduate population is such a profound part of the experience here at the University, our idea was to reach out directly to them.”
She said that law school officials hope these classes will help undergraduate students to understand why the law matters in a particular area of study that they may be interested in. Law School Dean Michael@@would it just be ‘Moffitt’ in this case since he is already mentioned by name and title?@@ Moffitt commented that classes in law can help strengthen any student’s education, no matter what career path.
“The skills learned through legal education strengthen one’s ability to be a better engaged citizen, contributing to the economy and the community,” Moffitt said. “We hope these courses will add value to our students’ professional lives.”
