Eugene City Council holds public hearing on ‘social host’ ordinance
The proposed ‘social host’ ordinance will go under review Monday as the Eugene City Council holds a public hearing to discuss the ordinance which is meant to reduce unruly parties across all of Eugene.
A strong student presence is predicted as members of the ASUO are organizing and leading students to the meeting in order to protest the ordinance.
The meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Bascom-Tykeson Room at the Eugene Public Library. @@checked@@
Greenhill employee sues company for mistreatment of animals
A former Greenhill Humane Society employee is seeking $700,000 in damages and claims that she was wrongfully fired after unwarranted criticism.
Heidy Hollister, a former veterinary technician, claims that after Greenhill took over the Lane County animal shelter she saw cases of mistreatment when sick, old and stray animals were not cared for properly.
Hollister is suing for lost wages with the alleged claim that she was fired wrongfully for performing her public duty to report what she believed to be criminal conduct by the veterinarian according to The Register-Guard. @@checked@@
Earthquake in Portland rates at 3.1
A 3.1 magnitude earthquake hit the Portland area Monday morning at 6:15 a.m. The earthquake was centered 11 miles northwest of Portland but was felt as far south as Woodburn according to the Associated Press.
A geologist from Portland State cites that earthquakes over 2.5 can generally be felt, and that this earthquake may be related to a smaller 2.3 magnitude earthquake that hit Portland on Sunday. @@checked@@
