Dana Altman’s Ducks took to the road Friday for their first true test of the year and emerged from the Thomas and Mack Center with their undefeated record in tact after upsetting the 18th-ranked Running Rebels 83-79. The Ducks had four players in double figures, including a 12-point effort from Las Vegas native Ben Carter.
Damyean Dotson’s jumper with less than twenty seconds left gave the Ducks the lead, and two free throws from the freshman with six seconds left iced the victory for the Ducks.
Oregon looked to be out of the game early on when a poor shooting start left UNLV up 9-2 early but the Ducks went on a few runs in the first half to get themselves to the break with a 40-37 lead.
The Ducks were in foul trouble for much of the second half with Tony Wood and EJ Singler both eventually fouling out. UNLV was plagued by foul trouble in the second half as well, with Quintrell Thomas fouling out and two other players finishing with four fouls.
It was another productive night for Arsalan Kazemi who once again was among the Ducks leaders in rebounds, finishing with eight rebounds including two off the offensive glass.
For UNLV freshman Anthony Bennett — a recruiting target of Oregon — led all scorers with 22 points and rounded out a double double with a game-high ten rebounds.
