As Oregon football looks to their road game against Cal this Saturday (a chance to improve to 10-0) many eyes are still focusing on last week after news broke Wednesday night that a student manager for USC deflated the game balls. Oregon head coach Chip Kelly had no interest in discussing the matter.
“My thought on that is real simple: it has nothing to do with us. We worry about what we can control. They can do whatever they want, it’s not a big deal to us,” Kelly said.
Defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti also had no interest in talking about deflated balls, but would rather talk about the running back core for the Cal Bears.
“I like their running backs a lot. I think all three of their running backs run hard. They’ve got some young receivers that are good receivers for freshmen. They’re really good, I’m impressed by them. I’m not sure where Keenan Allen is but if he plays, he’s a great player.”
Cornerback Avery Patterson agreed with coach Aliotti as far as Cal having some dynamic running backs capable of causing havoc on a defense.
“They have a couple different good running backs that they use in different ways. They have three really good running backs actually,” Patterson said. “Number five is really up and coming this season, he’s really fast so he can make some big plays if you let him.
