Ever feel like just sitting down and enjoying a dish that’s the financial equivalent of a luxury car? Take a look at this list of some of the world’s most expensive edible concoctions and decide for yourself whether or not such a temporary delicacy is worth the phenomenal cost.
The Frrrozen Haute Chocolate is sold at the New York Serendipity 3 restaurant for a bill of $25,000. If you’re rich enough to afford the dessert, you’ll be enjoying some 23 carat edible gold, and you’ll be able to walk away with a gold and diamond bracelet served with the dish around its crystal goblet. The recipe includes shavings from the world’s most expensive truffle and rarest cocoa, and is enjoyed on a jeweled spoon.
Before indulging in such an expensive after-dinner treat, you might want to head over to the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai. There, the ‘27.321’ cocktail is served, so-called because its price of 27,321 dirhams (or about $7,438). Created with 55-year-old Macallan whiskey and served in an 18-carat gold glass, this drink is sure to butter you up for even crazier culinary purchases.
If you think sushi is expensive now, just you wait — the Sushi Del Oriente dish might change your perspective on that California Roll. This nigiri sushi isn’t wrapped in traditional dried seaweed, but rather 24-carat gold leaves, and over the top isn’t just normal fish roe, but also African diamonds. The order of four pieces costs about $2,230, and is normally purchased and served alongside a marriage proposal.
But what if you want to just forget about all this fancy nonsense and get a pizza? Well, if you have $12,000 on hand, the 8-inch Pizza Louis XIII might be for you. The pizza is prepared in your home over the course of three days and is served with champagne and its own dishware. This pizza is topped with caviar, lobster and shrimp, as well as pink Australian salt direct from the Murray basin and mozzarella cheese.
