Bank inside local Albertsons robbed, suspect arrested
A 33-year-old man who robbed the US Bank branch inside the Albertsons at 311 Coburg Road has been arrested, according to The Register-Guard. The robbery occurred yesterday morning when Jeremie Wesley Skordahl presented a demand note and left with an undisclosed amount of money.
Springfield man accused of raping exotic dancer
Eliaser Baez-Duarte, 29, was arrested Sunday on the charges of first-degree rape after forcing himself on a 23-year-old woman while she performed a private dance for him at Sweet Illusions, a Springfield strip club.
According to The Register-Guard, Baez-Duarte appeared to be intoxicated when police responded to a call from the club’s bouncers.
Whether or not Baez-Duarte will face charges may be decided today once prosecutors finish reviewing the police investigation.
Car smashes through backyards
After going through a parking lot near 17th Avenue and Garfield Street, a man crashed through several backyards Monday night, damaging fences, hot tubs and decks before stopping at Westmoreland Village Apartments near 16th Avenue and Garfield Street.
The man attempted to flee on foot before he was arrested by Eugene police, according to KVAL.
Resident Steven Ferro equated the damage to that of a plane crash in his backyard.
City of Eugene and St. Vincent De Paul work to lower deaths of homeless individuals
In an effort to provide shelter for more homeless people as the weather grows colder, St. Vincent De Paul and the City of Eugene are funding the expansion of the Lindholm Service Center. The project will be split into two phases that will expand the building’s day center and kitchen, according to KVAL.
Daily visitors to the Center have increased from 130 to almost 200, with a trend of more new faces than repeat visitors.
UO Law alum recognized for commitment
University School of Law graduate Peter O. Watts was named the 2012 “Up & Coming Lawyer of the Year” by the Daily Journal of Commerce for his commitment to the legal profession and community. According to an Oregon Law press release, the 2002 graduate currently works at Jordan Ramis P.C. in Lake Oswego and practices business law.
Watts has also been previously recognized as a “Rising Star” by Oregon Super Lawyers Magazine and as one of Portland Business Journal’s “40 under 40 Business Professionals.”
