The ASUO Senate added another member Wednesday night after confirming Chase Salazar@@directory@@ to Senate Seat 17 – the academic seat for mathematical science majors.
Salazar is the social chair of his fraternity Delta Tau Delta and recalled a time when he had to make the right decision and not the popular one.
“There was a concern that we should not have a social event during week nine, and I decided that cancelling the event was the right thing to do, even though people in the house were not entirely pleased,” Salazar said.
Salazar is committed to streamlining the senate process and wants to make coming to senate a much more pleasant experience for groups.
“I don’t think that science majors come to the ASUO, so when my constituents come in I will support them,” Salazar said.
Sen. Ben Bowman, who looked over applications for the position, offered his input on confirming Salazar.
“We were impressed by all of the applicants, but Chase really stood out,” Bowman said.
The body passed a motion to confirm Salazar 16-1-0.
