Packing for dorm life is one of the hardest parts of moving away from home. Even with the lists and the planning, there will still be some essentials that somehow slid under the radar.
Hangers. Somehow your clothes multiply and your hanger supply dwindles during the moving process, so bring more than you think you’ll need.
Storage bins. The more organized your room, the happier you (and your roommate) will be. But wait until you see your room before buying these so you can get just what you need.
Planner. Just like you’ll want your room to be organized, you’ll want your life to be organized, too. Keeping track of your classes and activities will make your transition to college much easier.
Cork board. Most of the dorms have concrete walls, so you’ll need something to hang up all your pictures on. Oh, and tape. Lots of tape.
Breakfast food. On the weekend, most dorm food opens late, so keep some cereal and granola bars handy.
Power strip. You have more cords than you think.
Laundry bag. Baskets take up too much space.
Shower flip flops. Dorm showers are, well, dorm showers. You’re going to want some foot protection.
Costumes. If you have cowboy boots, you will get numerous chances to show them off.
Rain gear. Your raincoat and rain boots will be the items in your closet that get the most use, and your umbrella will be your favorite accessory.
Do you have everything? Good. Now, let the festivities begin!
