In the most complete performance of the year, the No. 3 Oregon Ducks shut down the No. 22 Arizona Wildcats 49-0 Saturday night.
While Oregon’s offense usually justifiably gets the lion’s share of the credit, it was the defense that set the pace throughout the game. Cornerbacks Troy Hill and Ifo Ekpre-Olomu each had pick-sixes, and the secondary stayed physical and aggressive against the fourth-ranked offense in the country.
Perhaps the best figure of the night is how well Oregon’s defense played in the redzone. Six times the Wildcats found themselves inside the Ducks’ 20-yard line, and six times they came away empty handed.
Three quick stats:
Turnovers: Arizona 5, Oregon 3
Interceptions: Arizona 4, Oregon 1
Fourth-down conversion percentage: Arizona 0% (0-4), Oregon 50% (1-2)
Final Stats: Arizona @ Oregon
