The Hayward Historic District, in collaboration with Maude Kerns Art Center, will host a neighborhood block party on Saturday, Oct. 13, between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. The party will raise money for the restoration process of the Agate Playground which is currently owned by the University. @@http://www.mkartcenter.org/@@
Located at 19th and Agate Street, the playground has been a highly used facility for the South University neighborhood.
“The University recognizes the great value of the playground for the whole community and looks forward to working with businesses and neighbors to make it great,” University spokesperson Phillip Carroll said. @@http://uoregon.edu/findpeople/person/Phillip*Carroll@@
Suggested dress code for the block party: macabre. The theme is Dia De Los Muertos, which Maude Kerns Art Center has been teaching visitors about for over 18 years. Members of the Hayward Historic District are hoping to establish ongoing support with area non-profits and businesses for restoration funds and maintenance of the playground.
