The International Student Association and the ASUO are teaming up to host The Social Butterfly, a welcome back-themed dance party Sept. 15, which will act as an introduction for international students at the University. Despite being hosted by ISA, all students are welcome and encouraged to attend the event.
The event — which will take place in the EMU Ballroom at 7 p.m. Saturday evening — will have snacks and beverages as well as a hired DJ, DJ Sipp, for music and entertainment.
International Affairs estimates that 500 students will attend the dance and ISA co-director James Lee agrees.
“I am quite confident that as many people will show up because it is part of the week-long orientation … and for most of the new students, it will be a first “college partay,” Lee said.
The purpose of the event is to integrate American and international cultures together while showing what it is like to party “American Style.”
Lee said the event is an attempt to build future relationships between international and domestic students as well as welcoming new international students.
“It will be a good opportunity for both international students and domestic students to get to know each other, and to experience different cultures,” Lee said.
ISA hosts many events during the year like the ISA Halloween Dance Party, a Winter Formal and the International Week and Night. If students are unable to attend The Social Butterfly, Lee strongly encourages students to check out other events.
